UX/UI Redesign for Lyon's Public Pools & Ice Rinks, Modernizing the Ville de Lyon's Website with a Cohesive Design System
Year :
2025
Industry :
Public Website
Client :
School Project ESD
Project Duration :
3 weeks

Problem :
The official website for Lyon's pools and ice rinks suffered from an outdated user interface and a lack of visual coherence, which made it difficult for citizens to access key information and make reservations. Without a unified design system, any new updates or pages created further fragmented the user experience.
The site needed a complete redesign to improve usability and a systematic framework to ensure all future additions remained consistent, functional, and on-brand.

Solution :
My solution began with a user-centric redesign to modernize the website's interface and simplify the user journey. I prioritized key actions, such as "Réserver mon créneau" (Book my slot), and streamlined the information architecture so users could easily find updates and news. To address the core challenge of inconsistency, I developed a comprehensive design system from the ground up.
This system documented all reusable components, typography, color palettes, and interaction patterns, providing a clear and scalable framework to ensure that all future pages and updates would be cohesive, functional, and on-brand.

Challenge :
A significant challenge was creating a design system robust enough for a public service website. The system had to be flexible enough to handle diverse content (like news, schedules, alerts, and reservation forms) while remaining strictly consistent. It also needed to be highly accessible and easy to use for a wide demographic, including people who may not be tech-savvy. The design had to prioritize clarity and function over trends to ensure long-term usability for the city.
Summary :
The Ville de Lyon's website for public pools and ice rinks was outdated and visually inconsistent, making it difficult for users to find information or book reservations.
I solved this by executing a complete UI/UX redesign that streamlined the user journey. The core of the project was building a comprehensive design system from scratch, ensuring all components, typography, and colors were unified. This provided the city with a modern, user-friendly portal and a scalable framework to maintain brand coherence for all future updates.
